Blue Sky Innovations’ IDEA VR

Professional, summer and fall 2023

I worked on the IDEA VR project, an interactive desktop and virtual reality experience to promote equitable and diverse workplaces, for 6 months. There are four episodes, each set up as a sort of “choose your own adventure” story, in which the user watches a video, decides how to proceed, watches the outcome of their choice, and is redirected to the correct answer’s video if they chose wrong.

When I started working on the project, rough versions of the interface already existed. I worked closely with the team lead, as well as another developer to discuss and implement changes. My contributions included copyediting, interface design, development, logo and fav icon design, and user-testing.

First, I watched all four episodes to get a feel of the storyline and interface. Upon a second viewing, I took detailed notes about problems I encountered, whether it was related to the design, functionality, responsiveness, or storyline itself. I rewrote the text prompts featured throughout all four episodes for conciseness and flow. I facilitated user-testing on desktops and virtual reality headsets, walking users through the program before and during the experience, and then asking a series of questions afterward. We used 3D Vista to create the program, and for months I edited the text, button design and layout, and interactivity of the program based on feedback from our user-testing.

Because the program was created for our clients, I unfortunately cannot include the link to the project itself.
